Women discuss their experiences as minorities in media

Margot Lee Shetterly, author of “Hidden Figures,” describes her over-six-year writing journey of three women and the role they played of sending a man into space. She was a featured speaker at this year’s Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference.
Sonia Nazario, author of “Enrique’s Journey,” dives into stereotypes that are placed on migrants seeking asylum in the United States within an interview with a high school journalist. Nazario held a session sharing her opinion on when journalists should become activists.


Racial Injustice reporter for the New York Times Magazine, Nikole Hannah-Jones, greets supporters after her keynote discussion. She touched on racial segregation in housing and schools in a conversation mediated by NPR investigative reporter, Cheryl W. Thompson.
KERA educational reporter Stella Chavez speaks about her experiences as a Latina woman in the workplace. Chavez has worked in both newspaper and television for many years.
